Ether 12:4 “Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with
surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God,
which hope cometh of faith maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would
make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to
glorify God.”
I read this scripture and it made me contemplate but it also
stopped me in my tracks. I had to reread this because there was so much that I
was missing from these words spoken. We learn about faith, hope, good works, glorifying
God and an anchor for our lives. All these principles are contained within this
one verse and intertwined together.
If we believe in God will then hope for a better world. If
we have hope for a better world it will lead us to believe in God. It is
without this hope that we do not have faith which is our anchor in this life.
For those of us that want to have that comfort and peace we most honestly desire
within it is founded by having faith in Jesus Christ.
This faith in Jesus Christ makes us sure and steadfast which
leads us to do good works always. When we do good works we are then glorifying
God because we are acting as disciples of Jesus Christ and showing our love,
devotion, and testimony of Christ. So when we believe we have hope, which hope
produces faith making it our anchor to our souls in this life. This faith then
leads us to act, doing good works which glorifies God, all because of our
belief and faith in Jesus Christ.
